Podcast 6: Frenship in the playoffs

I mixed things up just a little bit this week. Seeing to it as high school football is now two weeks into the playoffs, I am having to repeat a team profile. Rather than just previewing the team again, I chose a player to profile.

I spoke with Michael Connor this week of the Frenship Tigers. He is the running back, and I kid you not, one of the most talented athletes I have seen play at the high school level. Michael is a three year letterman who has ran for over 6,000 career yards. No, thats not a mistake. He has really ran for 6,000 plus yards. He also has 85 career touchdowns. Among other great things he is doing, his team is still in the playoffs.

Frenship plays Aledo on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls, Texas. Listen to the podcast to find out more about Michael and the Tigers.

Production wise, this was a fun podcast to make because of the interview. I recorded it using the mic on my mac. The sound quality isn't bad either. I once again used the high school band music in the background. I only had one song, so I thought it might get repetitive, but maybe not.

Episode 5: Estacado

Well this week I am previewing Lubbock Estacado. I mixed it up a little bit and interviewed the Head coach, Danny Servance, rather than a player. As much as I would have liked to speak with a player, the school wouldn't allow it because of PR issues.

Anyways, I couldn't have had a better conversation with Coach Servance. This is his first season as a head football coach at Estacado. He is a very down to earth person who likes to talk football. Him and I also spoke for some time about mass communications, seeing to it as he graduated Baylor with a mass comm degree.

I am very happy with this podcast. The interview was good. I had a little concern with the setting because we were in a big work out room, but the audio came through fine. I also used game footage from Estacado's game with Frenship to place over the interview. It kind of spices things up.

I hope everyone enjoys. Let me know what you think.

Lubbock High

Well this week I interviewed Josh Klemme and Brock Carson from the Lubbock High School football team. I enjoyed the interview and both players made good conversation. The Westerners aren't having their best season with a 2-7, 1-2 record, but they do show promising things each week. To keep everyone updated, the Westerners beat Monterey 16-14 in the game for the Spurs. So after a five year hiatus, the spurs are finally back at Lubbock High. I spoke with Josh and Brock about several different parts of their game. In this podcast, we discuss the captain's role, the spread offense, as well as a bullnose defense.

From a production standpoint, this is my favorite podcast. I used the ipod mic for my interview and to my surprise, the quality was pretty good. FINALLY, I fixed my audio problems which is a good thing.

I am undecisive if I should interview Monterey next week or Estacado. I plan on using the Estacado game as my next video podcast.
